Ambush Fall/Winter 2021
Luxury and modern come to mind with the latest collection from Ambush for Fall 2021. A usual purveyor of unique materials and found-objects for their accessories brand, this collection used more elevated materials from leather pants to fur jackets in the mix.
The goal of this collection was to set the precedent started by the prior seasons for what is to come in terms of creative branding. Ambush aims to create pieces that are both high end and comfortable. The past year has taught us that we want to be comforted by our clothes in the current world state, and Ambush seeks to add to that comfort across all levels. Clothes are worn daily, and they need to be enjoyed according to the creative director.
The collection might be comfortable to wear, but it looks anything but stay-at-home slouchy and casual. The entirety features looks that would look easily at home in the club or on the couch. Versatile prints and looks showed cutouts and sequins paired with tailored pants or rubber boots. Each piece conveys a story that says to the client that they can easily wear this at a cocktail party or an at-home zoom happy hour. Why should we diminish our dressing even if we are stuck at home? Close knit and oversized tailoring keeps things interesting for both men and women's fashion. Neutral tones and bolder color palettes show the range of the collection for a variety of season less dressing. It provides an escape for the wearer.
The accessories in the collection added a unique dimension to the styling as well. The oversized rubber soles of the color blocked shoes added a spin when worn with slinky cocktail dresses. The bevy of fur slippers and heels added to the overall "all dressed up and nowhere to go" narrative. There were no brands or logos present as the designs speak for themselves. Why push further when they are strong enough to speak for themselves? It is in this style of design and branding that Ambush finds its heart and soul.
As mentioned before, Ambush is known for taking things and twisting the original purpose of design to create something original. There is comfort in knowing that these objects' purpose have evolved beyond the original scope of their intended use. They now are able to become something beyond which can add interest and imagination to an otherwise classic look.
